COMMISSIONS
SCULPTURE
Initial discussions will include what you are interested in commissioning, the medium, size of sculpture, your budget, time frame and location. This will involve providing images and measurements and a meeting with Helen to draw and take photographs of the subject. Sculptures can be cast in bronze or in bronze resin.
Helen will show you the original clay model of the sculpture prior to it going to the foundry to be cast, so any minor adjustment can be discussed.
BRONZE SCULPTURE involves the ‘lost wax process’ – it is highly skilled, complex, time and labour intensive, which causes bronzes to be more expensive. Each edition is totally unique and there is a depth of colour, which you can’t achieve in a resin, and this improves with age. Bronze is heavier than resin, cold to touch, and you can guarantee the sculpture will be around for hundreds of years!
BRONZE RESIN SCULPTURE is also known as ‘cold cast bronze’ – it’s made from a mixture of bronze powder and resin and the casting is less expensive than casting in bronze. The sculpture is lighter and can break more easily (although easily repaired) but can sustain being outside for long periods of time. Many different patinas can be achieved including wonderful rusting effects.
